Charlie Thorstenson makes his return to ASW with his new album, Insikt

Making a highly anticipated return to Awesome Soundwave this Spring is charming Swedish producer, and live act Charlie Thorstenson. His passion and drive for crafting innovative sounds has led to Charlie being on the ASW radar for some time, and the “Insikt” LP is another stamp of approval of exactly why that is.

The album consists of 12 originals from the thriving Malmö based talent, a creative soul who explores only the avant garde realms of the spectrum, with limitless possibilities at his fingertips Charlie utilizes field recordings from the local area where he resides, these can be heard throughout the album, in combination with his incredible knack for making transcending techno, ethereal melodies and distinctive acid tones. His sound is cinematic as he effortlessly melds genres, constructing unique atmospheres we have all come to love from the Swede. 

Charlie’s previous album on the label “Kretsloop” was welcomed with open arms, allowing him to express himself and reaching new heights thanks for the curation of the label, so it is to no surprise we find him returning to the label. The live element is something that Charlie lives and breathes, similar to the ASW outfit, sketching out ideas as a producer, and deconstructing them for a live audience is something that lives within Thorstenson, sharing his sound on the road in recent years as he sets up for another prolific few years ahead, carrying on the momentum from his “Insikt” LP, entering a new chapter but maintaining his passion for live electronic music and the many avenues he can explore with his machines. 

“The whole album revolves around field recordings from the street. Most prominent is the alarm sound from the school across the street. It’s particularly audible in ”Skimra” and ”Insikt” but also hidden here and there in almost all tracks. I recorded a short video from the window at the time and just found it. It pretty much sums up the entire mood I was going for. Moody, night, rainy asphalt, yet warm and safe.”
