Melbourne live producer Monolith makes his debut on ASW with 'Ambiguous'
Melbourne based live producer Monolith has brought to us a body of work that defies direct categorisation in any one genre of electronic music. This is why we love it and wanted to just release it as is without any further explanation!
Monolith (Louay Zoghaib) is a Techno/Ambient artist who combines contemporary electronic techniques with traditional music practices. Having a formal background in audio engineering, sound design and classical composition, Louay uses his experiences to create a unique tapestry of sonic textures that appeals both, on and off the dancefloor. This is achieved through Monolith’s improvisational live approach with modular synthesizers and other electronic instrumentation.
Influenced by the melodic sound of early Techno, through to Acid Techno and minimal electronica, Monolith continually pursues new ways technology and creativity can collide to evolve his performances, sound and music. Monolith is a road trip fuelled by the romanticism of Dub Techno, the brittle sparks of minimal electronica and greased with Detroit Techno’s futuristic and melodic anatomy.
In his own ambiguous way, Monolith articulates what he is trying to communicate with this album:
“The anatomy of what an individual sees and hears could lead to the ambiguous nature of our reality. Is a tree still a tree without its leaves or a bookshelf without books still considered a bookshelf? Although we consider aspects of our surroundings to be definitive, ambiguity would still play a role in what we perceive. ‘Ambiguous’ explores this aspect by blurring the lines of its compositional construct. Written in the formulaic stylings of techno and ambient, the album obscures the categorisation of its musical approach. The objective is left to the listener to determine as the clarification is perceived by the individual and not by the definition.”
‘Ambiguous’ LP - August 20, 2021.
