'Stilla' as the next single from Swedish live artist Charlie Thorstenson
Charlie Thorstenson’s second single release with us develops on the narrative that he began with his first single “Stream” .
“Stilla” goes deeper into Charlie’s exploratory soundscape and leads us further on this journey to the ocean of sound that awaits us when we arrive at his album “Kretsloop” which comes out in July.
What we love about Charlie’s work is it’s rich textural and organic foundation upon which he builds these great rhythmic layers and structures. It is architectural and it is biological all at once..
And with Stilla; Charlie blends the acid of the 303 with the atmospheric spacious texture of his lush and alien reverb blooms, underpinned by the hypnotic beat that is almost reminiscent of a kraut-rock jam whilst maintaining its techno sensibility.
His live performance and his compositional approach are intrinsically linked in that he creates new work whilst jamming live with the machines.
As Charlie says himself: “When I decided to lose the computer from my live setup, I also changed workflow when producing. Now I only use Ableton Live for recording, EQ and some minor tweaks. 99% of all sounds come from my hardware and most FX come from my three lovely multi-effects. The world of Live and Production has started to merge together. So to answer the question: I don’t “practice,” but I practice all the time, if that makes sense! I jam the same way, whether I’m “playing live” or “producing.” The only big difference is that when I’m at home I have access to really great effect units and additional synths if I ever feel the need to change things up.”
With inspired artwork from label design team Studio IO - Stilla is out June 25 at all good digital outlets and streaming platforms.
